Happy Mardi Gras!

Today is Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, or as it's known in England, Pancake Day! Traditionally, people did not eat butter or eggs during Lent which starts on Ash Wednesday, tomorrow. They would make pancakes as a way to use up their eggs and butter. In the spirit of the holiday, Curtis and I had pancakes for breakfast. I also saw that IHOP is giving away short stacks of pancakes today until 10pm nationwide. I may go over there for lunch. Nothing tastes better than free food.

We had a pancake-based bash at church last night. All of the ministry team leaders were in on the planning. Of course, the Men's ministry (insert Christian-based grunting) dealt with the kitchen, because, as everyone knows, pancakes and bacon are a manly thing to make.

We also had arts and crafts time, where we made masks - one representing what we wanted to give up during Lent, and the other representing who we hoped to become, by the grace of God. I was really pleased how many of the kids "got it." (Lots of big mouths on the first masks, lots of big ears on the second.) :)
